Welcome to my little corner of the world. My mission is to impress you with my style, my stories and my passions. I want to be friends with you. I want us to swap stories and experiences, to learn from each other and to change the way we perceive ourselves.
I created this site because I wanted a safe place where I could share my thoughts and opinions with the world. The name BO-YE-MEH means beauty in my language (Ikom language). I chose the name because I wanted to represent my culture. Ikom is a small town nestled in the dense forest side of Nigeria, and we don’t get enough exposure. Its waterfalls provide serene environments for a good refresh and relax. My people are so welcoming and are always eager to give you a good time. We are such beautiful people.
It is with this in mind that I wanted to convey my message of beauty with the world.
As a young black girl growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, I based my beauty standards on what the media and my society fed me.
Beauty meant thick long wavy hair, a cute button nose, almond-shaped eyes, thin pouted lips, a good bust, flat stomach, hips that jutted out slightly and a well-rounded bottom. You had to be the definition of figure eight. You also had to be tall with long slender legs that held no muscular calves, and when you smiled, your lips should part to display perfectly formed teeth.
I fell short of these standards and so I never considered myself beautiful.
Now that I’m older, I am defining beauty in my terms.
Through Boyemeh, I share my opinions on fashion trends, embracing your style, curating a wardrobe full of clothes you love and making them last you a lifetime.
You don’t need to conform to the beauty standards set by the world, create your own. You are beautiful.
Keep your eyes peeled, your hearts open and join me on this wonderful journey of love, beauty and fulfilment.
